The Vacation Reading Club is a program available through the Friends Free Library in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia. The club is designed for older students who are reading independently. The books selected this summer are divided into two categories: “Quick Reads” and “Longer Reads”. You can choose to read all the books or only some of the books, depending on how much time you have to commit to the program.
How to Participate
Step 1: Check out the Reading Schedule to see which books are on this summer’s reading list. Select one or more books from the list, and read them. We’ll focus on two titles approximately every two weeks.
Step 2: As you read the book, participate in the online discussion from the Book Discussion page. Find the posting for the book you’re reading (and for longer books, the relevant discussion topic), and participate in the discussion by reading others’ comments and submitting your own responses.
Tips for posting your comments
To get the most out of the online discussion, we recommend participating during the two weeks of the summer assigned to that book. While you may post your comments at any time during the summer, these are the weeks that the discussion will be the most lively since the majority of readers will be posting their comments during that time period.
